Promoting the services that we offer to Dorset carers.

The event was run by The Adams Practice and was held at Lytchett Matravers Village Hall on Thursday 10th October 2024 from 2pm till 5.30pm.

We were there to promote the services that we offer to Dorset carers. The event was an opportunity for carers to meet multiple providers from different organisations, on a drop-in basis, to gain information, advice and guidance.

There was also a free cream tea for the carers and cared for.

Young Carers Create Orchestra

We have recently supported 30 young carers to create an orchestra in a week through a partnership between Bath Philharmonia, BCP Council and SoundStorm Music Education Agency. Bath Philharmonia transforms lives through the joy of live orchestral music, reaching communities and young carers across the South West. Through week-long residencies they give young carers a vital break from their caring responsibilities; through music making, they change life chances and open up new opportunities.

A young carer is someone aged 25 and under who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support. Older young carers are also known as young adult carers and they may have different support needs to younger carers. Caring roles can affect young carers’ education, friendships, health & wellbeing. Through music they enable them to develop their self-confidence and resilience in a fun, friendly and safe environment, giving them an outlet for self-expression and their innate creativity that they would not otherwise have.

Bath Philharmonia is the only orchestra in the UK to offer a regular programme of activity for young carers and are the only professional orchestra that regularly performs music co-created by and with young people on their mainstage alongside their orchestra.
