Here are some examples of the way the Trust has helped carers in Dorset, and the kind of things the Trustees are happy to consider.

The Trust really wants to hear what will help YOU, so please let us know what would make a difference to you.

Mary cares for her 50 year old husband who has multiple disabilities and depression. She herself has various health problems and needed some relief from her stressful life. We agreed to fund ten massage treatments to help her relax.

Bill cares for his wife, who is 36, and has Multiple Sclerosis. They requested help to provide a holiday bungalow where they could go with their young daughter, and Jane’s mother, to help with care provision. We paid for a suitable holiday home in the Lake District.

Eric and Joan are both 82 years old, and he has Lewy Body Dementia. She very much enjoyed a few days in a local hotel to give her a break from chores.

Andrea is the single mother of 7 year old Carl, who has severe autism. So that they could have a fun and relaxing time together we paid for a week at Butlins.

John is 50 years old and cares for his 77 year old father, who has Muscular Dystrophy. He is able to get out for short periods of time and requested a local club membership which gives him access to various meetings etc.

Samuel and his wife are in their 70s. She has mobility problems, depression and incontinence, and her husband has his own health issues. They live in a mobile home and their washing machine had broken down and was beyond repair, and so we have paid for a replacement.

Carol is the carer for her 46 year old husband who has Rheumatoid arthritis and depression. She requested a holiday for the all the family, so we provided funds for a week at a Haven Holiday Camp.

Dora is 65, and cares for her 88 year old stepfather who has Alzheimer’s, which causes him to become violent at times. She was badly in need of a break and Social Services had arranged for respite care, so we gave made a grant to enable her to have a holiday.

Patricia cares for her 68 year old mother who has Bi-polar and heart problems. Patricia herself was quite unwell and Social Services agreed to pay for respite care for her mother, although as she is Dutch were unable to cover all the cost. We agreed to pay the top-up for four weeks to give Patricia a break.

Andrew and Claire have three children, two of whom have a form of Cerebral Palsy with learning and physical disabilities. Claire herself has learning disabilities. The family live in a housing association property with shared garden facilities and are the target of bullying and discrimination from neighbours. The family was in desperate need of a break and we paid for a week at Butlins.

Sophia cares for her 54 year old husband who has multiple disabilities and is blind. She suffers from severe depression, and the family has undergone major problems in the last year or so. We agreed to help with a Christmas break at Paignton.

Robert cares for his 70 year old wife, who has severe arthritis and other health conditions. He has to do all the housework as well as attend to all his wife’s needs, and we have paid for them to have a dishwasher, to reduce his chores.

Sandra cares for her 30 year old husband who is severely bi-polar. She finds this very stressful, and we paid for a course of massage treatments to help her to relax.
